Delhi Triple Murder: Fired From Job, Ex-Employees Kill Couple, Maid In Hari Nagar; Child Found Alive

New Delhi: A couple and their domestic help were found murdered at a house in west Delhi’s Hari Nagar on Tuesday. The victims have been identified as Sameer Ahuja (38) years, his wife Shalu (35) and their maid Sapna (33). According to police, the bodies of Shalu and the maid were found on the ground floor of the four-storey house with their throats slit, while Sameer was found dead on the first floor with multiple injuries on his face and head. The slain were stabbed with a sharp object, as per the DCP.

The couple’s minor daughter was alive and sleeping on the first floor in the hall, the officer said. The police said they recovered a pan from the spot that they suspect was used by the accused to hit Sameer on his head.

The information regarding an incident of burglary in the Ashok Nagar area was received at Hari Nagar police station at around 9.15am on Tuesday, Nov 1

The police have arrested Sachin (19), a resident of Najafgarh, and Sujeet (21), a resident of Uttam Nagar, deputy commissioner of police (west) Ghanshyam Bansal said.

Shalu’s iPhone-13, the weapon of offence and a blood-stained towel were recovered from the possession of the accused, police said. Sapna came to the house around 8am and Sameer’s driver, who informed the police about the incident, arrived around 9am, the officer said.

After scanning the footage of the CCTV camera, the police found the miscreants came on two bikes around 8am. They were seen returning in a hurry around 9am.

What led to Hari Nagar Triple Murder?

According to police, the main conspirator, who is absconding and his girlfriend worked in Shalu’s salon. Around 10 days ago, they were sacked due to their unprofessional attitude and Sameer had also verbally thrashed them.

It was found that Shalu sacked the duo after she got to know about their relationship. The DCP said as the duo felt humiliated, they planned to take revenge and discussed it with Sujit and Sachin.

The other three persons were also roped in by the main conspirator. They all came prepared and executed the plan. As the maid was at the spot when the incident happened, they killed her as well, the DCP said.

The investigation revealed that the main conspirator visited the house around 10 minutes before Sapna’s arrival, he said.

They took a DVR, a laptop, cash and other articles in the house.

Meanwhile, efforts are on to nab the remaining accused who have also been identified, they said, adding further investigation is underway. Sapna’s relative Mukesh, who works as a labourer, said that his wife, Sapna and some other women known to them work as domestic help in the Ashok Nagar area.

He got to know about the incident after some women told them about the murders at the house where Sapna worked. Sapna is survived by her husband Sajeev, who works in a garage, and a four-year-old daughter. They have been living in Delhi for the last 10 to 12 years, another relative Jeev Ram said.

SC frowns on two-finger test in rape case: Stop the practice immediately it says

New Delhi, Oct 31: The Supreme Court on Monday said that it is patriarchal and sexist to say that a woman cannot be believed when she states that she was raped merely because she is sexually active.

The court said that those conducting the two finger (virginity) test on rape survivors should be prosecuted for criminal misconduct. The court said that the two finger test stands proscribed by the Supreme Court through several judgments starting 2013.

The Bench headed by Justice Dhananjaya Chandrachud frowned up the continuance of this practice even though it was established to be lacking any scientific basis to ascertain the sexual history of the victim.

"This court has time and again deprecated the use of two-finger test in cases alleging rape and sexual assault. The so-called test has no scientific basis and is an invasive method of examining rape survivors. It instead re-victimises and re-traumatises women. The two-finger test must not be conducted," Justice Chandrachud said while reading out the operative portion of the verdict. The test is based on an incorrect assumption that a sexually active woman cannot be raped. Nothing can be farther from the truth. "It is patriarchal and sexist to suggest that a woman cannot be believed when she states that she was raped merely because she is sexually active," the Bench said.

The court directed the Centre and states to ensure that the guidelines formulated by the department of health and family welfare banning the two finger test are recirculated to all government and private hospitals. Workshops should be conducted for health care providers to communicate appropriate procedure for examining survivors of sexual assault, the Bench said.

The court also said that it was in favour of a review of curriculums in medical schools to state that two finger test is not prescribed as one of the procedures to be adopted while examining survivors of sexual assault and rape. The order was passed while setting aside the acquittal of a man in a rape and murder case and sentencing him to a life term.

Active Covid cases dip to 18,802

New Delhi, Oct 29 (PTI) With 1,574 people testing positive for the coronavirus infection, India's tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 4,46,50,662, while the active cases declined to 18,802, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Saturday.

A decrease of 596 cases has been recorded in the active covid caseload in a span of 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The death toll has climbed to 5,29,008 with nine fatalities which includes five reconciled by Kerala, while one death each has been reported from Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana and Maharashtra. it said.

Telangana court rejects petition for remand of defendants in MLA poaching case

Hyderabad : A city court judgement dismissing a police petition seeking judicial remand for three people accused of attempting to poach four Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MLAs was a major setback for the ruling party.

Following the order of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Court judge, the police released Ramachandra Bharati alias Satish Sharma, Nanda Kumar, and Simhayaji Swamy.

On Thursday night, nearly 24 hours after detaining the three people at a farmhouse outside Hyderabad, the police brought them before the judge at his home in Saroornagar.

Judge G. Rajagopal, on the other hand, denied the police plea for judicial custody, alleging a lack of proof. He noted that because there is no evidence of bribe money, the Prevention of Corruption Act does not apply to the case.

The judge directed police to serve notices on the accused for questioning under Section 41 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Cyberabad police, who released the accused after a court order, are reportedly seeking legal advice on their next steps in the case.

The accused, who are known to be close to some prominent BJP leaders, were apprehended at a farmhouse in Moinabad on Wednesday night while allegedly attempting to entice four TRS MLAs with offers of large quantities of money, significant posts, and contracts.

Police launched a FIR against Ramachandra Bharati of Delhi, Nanda Kumar of Hyderabad, and Simhayaji Swamy of Tirupati after receiving a complaint from one of the MLAs, Pilot Rohit Reddy.

The case was filed under sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 171-B (bribery) read with 171-E (bribery punishment), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) read with 34 (acts done by multiple persons in furtherance of common intention), and section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The accused, according to the complaint, offered him Rs 100 crore. They also promised him Central Government civil contract jobs and other high-level Central Government positions in exchange for monetary rewards in order to entice him to join the BJP.

The MLA told police that if he does not join the BJP, there will be criminal cases and raids by the ED/CBI, and the TRS-led Telangana government will be deposed.

The accused bribed three other MLAs with Rs 50 crore each to join the BJP.

Cyberabad police arrived at the property and detained the three suspects after receiving a tip from Rohit Reddy.

Police questioned the accused, including two "godmen," at an undisclosed location on Thursday.

The court, however, refused to put them to judicial remand. This is a setback for the TRS, which has accused the BJP of poaching its MLAs in order to destabilise the administration.

The arrests caused aftershocks in state politics. Ministers, TRS MPs, MLAs, and other leaders took to the streets to oppose the BJP. The saffron party disputed the claims, claiming that the drama was staged by Chief Minister KCR to gain political mileage ahead of the Munugode Assembly by-election.

Though there have been rumours that the police seized large sums of money from the farmhouse, no such evidence was presented to the court.

Meanwhile, Nanda Kumar said that they were at the farmhouse for puja after the release. "I have nothing to do with the charges," he stated flatly. The businessman stated that justice had been served in the case.

Jaipur, Oct 28 (PTI) Senior IPS officer Umesh Mishra will be the new Rajasthan Director General of Police (DGP)The 1989-batch officer will take over as the DGP upon the retirement of incumbent M L Lather on November 3, an order issued by the department of personnel on Thursday night said.

Mishra, who is currently the DG Intelligence, has been appointed as the DG (head of police force for a period of two years (irrespective of his date of superannuation) or until further orders, whichever is earlier, it said.

At the same time, he has also been promoted to the apex scale (Level 17 in the pay matrix) of the Indian Police Service, the order read.

Mishra has held posts like Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Intelligence, ADG Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and Special Operations Group (SOG), ADG Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), IG Bharatpur in the past. He has also been the Superintendent of Police of Kota city, Bharatpur, Pali and Churu districts.

New Delhi: (AGENCY) A 32-year-old man was beaten to death by the family of a girl, whom he had allegedly molested, in Faridabad, police said on Thursday.

According to a senior police official, at around 11:50 p.m. on Wednesday, when the now-deceased Mohit Yadav was sitting in a car along with his friend Naveen– both involved in molesting the girl–, around 10 to 11 people came and attacked them with iron rods, sticks, and axe.

Yadav was also wanted in a murder case that took place in the Kheripul area in April and had reportedly harassed the other women of the girl’s family.

In a complaint, Yadav’s wife Deepika stated that when she along with her brother-in-law Bharat reached the spot, she saw the people thrashing Yadav and Naveen.

They rushed them to hospital where Yadav was declared brought dead while Naveen is undergoing treatment.

The accused identified as Mukesh, his brother-in-law Ajay and his son Karan, all residents of Riwajpur village have been arrested and are being interrogated, said an official.

“A case has been registered under sections 302 (murder), 148 (riots ), 149 (unlawful assembly), 323 (causing hurt), and 427 (causing damage) of the Indian Penal Code at Bhupani police station against more than ten accused and further investigation is going on,” said the senior police official.

Three tribal women were electrocuted to death forest area of Odisha's Keonjhar district

Bhubaneswar: Three tribal women were electrocuted to death after coming in contact with a live electric wire in the forest area of Odisha's Keonjhar district on Saturday, the police said.

The incident took place near Tangiri village under Telkoi police station in Keonjhar district on Saturday. The deceased have been identified as Niradhi Juanga, Kathi Juanga and Manjari Juanga, all from Tangiri village.

According to the locals, the three women had gone to the forest near their village to feed their goats. One of the goats accidentally came in contact with a snapped live electric wire in the forest. In a bid to save the goat, all the three women were electrocuted one after the other, leading to their death. The goat also died on the spot.

After getting information, local police reached the village and recovered the bodies and sent them for post-mortem.

It is being alleged that some people intentionally drew live wire inside the forest to protect their crops from wild animals.

"Untraceable" Kerala MLA appears before media; claims innocence in rape case

Kochi, (PTI) A day after he was granted anticipatory bail by a court in a case of rape and attempt to murder, Congress MLA Eldhose Kunnappilly on Friday appeared before the media and claimed that he was innocent and had done nothing wrong as alleged by the complainant woman.

The two-time legislator expressed confidence that he could prove charges against him as wrong in the court and could come out clean.

Kunnappilly, who met reporters separately at his house here, also said he gave his explanation to the Congress party as directed by the KPCC and it was up to them to decide on further steps.

Asked why he had gone absconding after the victim approached the police with the complaint, the Perumbavoor MLA just said his anticipatory bail plea was before the court.

"My anticipatory bail plea was before the court. I have not done anything wrong. I submitted every proof for that before the court. It will be proved that I have committed nothing wrong," Kunnappilly said.

The police and party leadership had made it clear that he was untraceable after the case was registered against him.

When asked about the victim's charges against him, the MLA rubbished it saying they were all just allegations.

"I will be exonerated in this case. I have complete faith in that. But, I cannot divulge anything right now as I have to comply with the bail conditions directed by the court," he said.

He also said he, his family and the Congress party would completely cooperate with the ongoing investigation.

A sessions court in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday granted the Congress MLA anticipatory bail in a case of rape and attempt to murder.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief K Sudhakaran said the MLA had given an explanation to the KPCC office through his lawyer and the same would be examined after he reaches Kerala on Friday.

Besides rape and attempt to murder, the Congress MLA has also been charged with assault following a complaint from the alleged victim who stated he had abducted and manhandled her.

The case was filed against three accused, including the MLA's personal assistant and a friend.

The victim claimed that Kunnappilly offered her Rs 30 lakh to settle the case registered against him.

On the fourth and final day of the Yatra in the state, Rahul Gandhi along with party leaders and scores of party workers resumed the Yatra Friday morning from Mantralayam in Kurnool district.

After a four-hour walk, the Yatra re-entered neighbouring Karnataka. It halted at Gillesugur in Raichur district. It will resume in the evening from Kerebudur village.

Rahul Gandhithanked the people of Andhra Pradesh for their overwhelming support and encouragement. It has truly been a memorable experience, he said.

karnataka to strengthen anti-terrorism squad says cmd

Bengaluru, Oct 21 (PTI) Cautioning that "destructive forces" have crept into all fields in society, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday said his government would strengthen the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), and increase the number of prisons in the state.

The state government proposes to undertake more reforms in the police department, he said, as he also highlighted the need for equipping police personnel with sophisticated weapons.

Bommai was speaking after paying tributes on Police Martyrs' Day here, during which he recalled Karnataka police's rich history and the services of the personnel who died on duty.

"The population is increasing in the society and both national and international destructive forces are trying to disturb peace in the society," the Chief Minister said.

Bommai also said the government proposes to undertake more reforms in the police department by having a police museum, strengthening ATS (Anti-Terrorism Squad), and increasing the number of jails, among others.

He said, laws are framed to check any crime after it takes place, but there is a need to think about possible crimes well in advance and enact legislation accordingly.

Police personnel needed sophisticated weapons, he further said, adding that "if senior police officers work efficiently, it will automatically make lower-rung officers to follow their bosses."

Noting that Karnataka is ahead in providing facilities to the police compared to other states, the Chief Minister said the recruitment rate is high with the appointment of 4,000-5,000 police personnel every year.

"The confidence of the police must rise and the appointment must take place without corruption, which is being followed by the incumbent government. Also, new technology and tackling cyber crime should be part of police training," he said.

Pointing out that the construction of police stations has increased in the last one year, Bommai said, in the next one year, all police stations in the state must have their own buildings.

Police inspectors and deputy superintendents of police require training for which a separate command would be created, he said.

Crash of ALH-WSI brings into focus accidents involving military platforms

New Delhi, Oct 21 (PTI) The crash of a weapon system integrated version of an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) of the Indian Army on Friday near Tuting in Arunachal Pradesh once again brought into sharp focus the growing number of accidents involving military choppers and aircraft.

The twin-engine indigenously-developed helicopter belonging to the Army Aviation wing went down at Migging village in Upper Siang district of the border state and a massive search and rescue operation has been launched by the Army and the Indian Air Force (IAF) in the high-altitude treacherous region.

A Tezpur-based defence ministry spokesperson the ALH (weapons system helicopter) took off from Lekabali and crashed at Migging near Tuting, a region which is located around 35 km from the border with China.

Kejriwal hits back at Shah, says don't make excuses for BJP-led MCD's failure

In a series of tweets in Hindi, the AAP supremo also said that in the next civic elections, people will have to decide whether they want a Delhi filled with garbage or a clean Delhi.

"For something you could not do in 15 years, now you want three more years for that? Why should people trust you? You won't be able to do it. Now we will make Delhi garbage-free," Kejriwal posted in Hindi on the micro-blogging site.

Delhi HC rejects plea against absolute firecracker ban

New Delhi, Oct 20 (PTI) Noting the pendency of issues related to firecrackers before the Supreme Court, the Delhi High Court on Thursday refused to entertain a petition challenging Delhi Pollution Control Committee's complete ban on sale and use of all kinds of firecrackers.

Justice Yashwant Varma dismissed the petition by two merchants who sought to "purchase, sell and store only green crackers" during the festive season, and said it was not appropriate for the high court to independently examine such a challenge when the issue "does appear to be engaging the attention" of the top court.

The court, however, said the petitioners were free to initiate appropriate proceedings under the law to seek redressal of their grievances.

Lucknow (Inputs from Agencies) : Adipurush, a Bollywood film, has been requested to be banned in a plea filed with the Allahabad High Court's Lucknow division.

Before the division bench of Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Renu Agarwal, attorney Ranjana Agnihotri listed the offensive elements of the film while speaking on behalf of the petitioner Kuldeep Tiwari.

Agnihotri requested a ban on the film, which would be released on January 12 of next year, citing the inappropriate material in the previously published teaser.

In court appearance on behalf of the Union government, attorney Ashwani Singh claimed that the petitioner had named the Center, the State, the Censor Board, Om Raut, the director of the film, as well as actors Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan, and Kriti Menon in the complaint.

The hearing's next date has not yet been determined.

Early this month, a petition was submitted to a Delhi court asking for an injunction to prevent the release of the upcoming film on the grounds that its promotional trailer depicts Hindu gods in a "unwarranted" and "inaccurate" manner.

In his Friday filing, attorney Raj Gaurav argued that the defendants, producer Bhushan Kumar and director and co-producer Om Raut, had falsified key elements of the epic Ramayana and demanded a permanent and binding injunction against them.

The plea alleged that the defendants had offended the plaintiff and other Hindus' religious, cultural, historical, and civilizational sentiments by inaccurately and unjustifiably portraying the Hindu deities Lord Ram and Lord Hanuman in the teaser or promotional video for their upcoming film Adipurush.
