'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2' mints over Rs 55 crore on opening weekend

Mumbai, (PTI) Actors Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani-fronted horror comedy "Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2" has earned Rs 55.96 crore in three days, the makers said on Monday.

The film, a sequel to Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan-starrer 2007 psychological horror comedy of the same name, released on Friday.

"Bhool Bhulaiya 2" had an opening of Rs 14.11 crore, followed by an impressive Rs 18.34 crore on Saturday. The film's Sunday collection of Rs 23.51 crore took its opening weekend collection to Rs 55.96 crore.

The film's success has ended the dry spell at the Bollywood box office, which saw only two other Hindi films doing impressive business -- Alia Bhatt's February release "Gangubai Kathiawadi" and "The Kashmir Files", which opened in March.

Produced by Bhushan Kumar and Murad Khetani, "Bhool Bhulaiya 2" is directed by Anees Bazmee and also features Tabu.

Amazon Studios greenlights third season of 'Upload'

Mumbai, May 12 (PTI) Amazon Studios on Thursday announced that it has renewed the fan favourite sci-fi comedy series "Upload", from Emmy Award-winning writer Greg Daniels, for a third season.

Daniels is best known for his work on hit shows such as "The Office" and "Parks and Recreation".

The second season of "Upload" premiered March 11, this year.

"Upload" is a sci-fi comedy series set in a technologically advanced future where hologram phones, 3D food printers, and automated grocery stores are the norm. Most uniquely, humans can choose to be uploaded into a virtual afterlife.

"'Upload' has become a bonafide hit that continues to be one of the most watched comedy originals on Prime Video, said Vernon Sanders, head of global television, Amazon Studios.

The series continues to connect and provoke endless possibilities for the future of technology and humanity. With Greg's distinct comedic take along with the dynamic creative team and talented actors, they've made a globally relevant series which we're all incredibly proud to bring back another season for our customers.

Creator and Executive Producer Greg Daniels said, "I'm thrilled to continue the story of Nathan and Nora and the other residents of Lakeview and near-future America as they try to have fun and do the right thing in both the real and virtual worlds.

In season two, Nathan is at a crossroads in his (after) life: His ex-girlfriend Ingrid has unexpectedly arrived to Lakeview hoping to strengthen their relationship, but his heart still secretly yearns for his customer service angel, Nora. Meanwhile, Nora is off the grid and involved with the anti-tech rebel group The Ludds.

Daniels also serves as executive producer along with Howard Klein on the show that features Robbie Amell as Nathan, Andy Allo as Nora, Kevin Bigley as Luke, Allegra Edwards as Ingrid, Zainab Johnson as Aleesha, Owen Daniels as A.I. Guy, Josh Banday as Ivan, and Andrea Rosen as Lucy.

Santoor maestro Shiv Kumar Sharma dies at 84

Mumbai, May 10: Veteran santoor player and music composer Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma died here on Tuesday morning following a heart attack, family sources said. He was 84.

Sharma, one of India’s most well known classical musicians, was due to perform in Bhopal next week. He was also suffering from renal ailments.

“He had a severe heart attack at around 9 am… He was active and was to perform in Bhopal next week. He was on regular dialysis but was still was active,” the family source told PTI.

A Padma Vibhushan recipient, Sharma was born in Jammu in 1938 and is believed to be the first musician to have played Indian classical music on the santoor, a folk instrument from Jammu and Kashmir.

As one half of musician duo Shiv-Hari, he composed music with flute legend Pt Hari Prasad Chaurasia for an array of films such as “Silsila”, “Lamhe” and “Chandni”.

His son Rahul Sharma is also a santoor player.

“The passing away of Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharmaji marks the end of an era. He was the pioneer of Santoor and his contribution is unparalleled. For me, it’s a personal loss and I will miss him no end. For the caption, Suhana has given a broken heart emoji.

One wrote: “New York already misses you.”

A friend simply wished her good luck.
