Age limit removed for taking admission in colleges of Chhattisgarh

With the removal of the age limit for admission in the colleges of Chhattisgarh, people desirous of studying are getting a chance to study again. New colleges are also being started by the state government to promote higher education in Chhattisgarh. Along with this, new faculties of various subjects are being commenced in the colleges. There is a continuous increase in the number of girls taking admission in the colleges of the state. This is a good sign for Chhattisgarh, women will get a chance to be empowered through education in the coming days. On the initiative of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel and Higher Education Minister Mr. Umesh Patel, continuous efforts are being made for the expansion of higher education. In order to increase the quality of higher education, the state government has started a campaign to get affiliation from NAAC on a mission mode to ensure the arrangement of educational infrastructure and academic level according to the various criteria set by NAAC. Presently the number of colleges assessed by NAAC has gone up to 192.

It is the result of the efforts of the state government  that the number of students taking admission in the college is continuously increasing. While about 2 lakh 26 thousand 373 students took admission in the college in 2018-19, this number has increased by 48 percent to 3 lakh 35 thousand 139 in the year 2022-23. Which is one lakh 8 thousand 766 more than in 2018-19. In view of the increasing number of students studying in the college, a total of 33 new government and 76 non-government colleges have been established in the last 4 years. There are 285 government colleges, 12 aided non-government colleges and 252 non-aided non-government colleges operating in Chhattisgarh. There are 09 state and 15 private universities operating under the Higher Education Department.

Shaheed Nandkumar Patel University has been established in Raigarh keeping in mind the distance of Raigarh from Bilaspur. With the aim of raising the educational level, recruitment was issued for 1384 vacant posts on a total of 27 subjects of assistant professor in government colleges in the state, out of which appointment orders have been issued to 1167 candidates. Apart from this, recruitment has also been done on other academic and non-academic posts including librarian, sports officers.

To encourage girls in higher education, 26 girls colleges are also being run. Co-study facility is available in other colleges. In the year 2018-19, where 1,34,391 girl students took admission in the college as compared to 91,982 boys, in 2022-23, the number of boys has increased to 1,28,310 and the number of girl students to 2,06,829. The number of girl students is 61 percent more than that of boys. This is a pleasant sign that women are very aware about their education and aspirations.
