Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel, while inaugurating a three-day National Consultative Workshop on soil and water conservation in Raipur on Tuesday evening, stated that the whole world is concerned about Climate Change, but the welfare of forest dwellers is equally important.

Chief Minister Mr. Baghel further mentioned that the state government has constructed 1 crore 19 lakh structures in Vananchals (forest areas) for water conservation under the Narva scheme, aiming to maintain a proper balance of groundwater levels in Chhattisgarh. He added that the implementation and outcomes of the Narva scheme have received positive responses from forest dwellers and farmers throughout the state. Tribals have also appreciated the Narva scheme which has replenished groundwater levels of numerous regions. The Chief Minister also highlighted the positive change in the relationship between tribals and forest guards, which was made possible through consistent efforts of the state government to introduce schemes that benefit tribals. Tribals now eagerly anticipate the arrival of forest officials, as they expect the introduction of new schemes for their benefit.

The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of planting fruit-bearing trees in forests, which would benefit the forest dwellers. Additionally, he stressed the need for a proper system to facilitate the sale of their produce. The Forest Department is not only the guardian of the forests but also the guardian of the forest dwellers. By promoting the plantation of fruit trees, the green cover of forests will be enhanced, leading to their preservation, and the income of forest dwellers will also increase.

He mentioned that the 'oxygen emergency' drew attention to the 'importance of oxygen' during Corona. Chhattisgarh supplied oxygen to every corner of the country. Furthermore, the Chhattisgarh Government is procuring 67 types of minor forest produce at MSP (Minimum Support Price), which has enabled forest dwellers to earn a good income.

Mr. Chandra Prakash Goyal, Special Secretary and Director General of the Forest and Environment Department in the Government of India, appreciated the steps taken by the Chhattisgarh government for soil and water conservation. Forestry experts from across the country participated in the workshop, where discussions were held on conserving and enhancing natural resources in Chhattisgarh
