Gauri women self-help group achieve financial independence through Gauthan's economic activities

 Group earns Rs 1.7 lakh profit from vermicompost sales

Bijapur, TNINS 

This is a story about the women of a self-help group associated with Gauthan operated under Gram Panchayat Ilmidi. These women are paving their way to self-reliance by engaging in economic activities conducted in the state-run Gauthan. They have earned a net profit of nearly Rs 1.7 lakh from the sale of vermicompost. Additionally, these women are involved in other income-generating activities including fish and poultry farming, rearing earthworms, and commercial vegetable cultivation in the Gauthan, which provides them with a steady income.

Vijaya Poonem, the president of the Gauri Self-Help Group, said "Apart from earning a good income from vermicompost, they have also generated Rs 6000 from the sale of earthworms, Rs 4000 from fish farming, Rs 2000 from egg production, and more than Rs 1000 from selling vegetables. By engaging in these works, we women are extremely happy, hopeful, and becoming financially independent."
