Raipur : Ranjita Koreti, a young girl from Chhattisgarh's Kondagaon district, has made the state and the nation proud by clinching the gold medal at the prestigious Asian Cadet Judo Championship held in Taipei, Taiwan. Representing India on the international stage, Ranjita triumphed over competitors from various countries to secure this historic win.
A resident of the Kondagaon Girls’ Home run by the Chhattisgarh State Child Welfare Council, Ranjita has proven to be a shining star. Her victory is not only a matter of pride for Kondagaon district but also a remarkable achievement for the entire state.
The success story of Ranjita is the result of continuous support and mentorship provided by the District Child Protection Unit, the Department of Women and Child Development, and the residential care institution. With consistent physical and mental development, Ranjita grew stronger over the years. Owing to her keen interest in sports and stellar performances in various competitions, she was provided specialized judo training with the help of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
Ranjita began her sports journey with an impressive debut in 2021 at the Open National Judo Tournament held in Chandigarh, competing in the 40 kg weight category. She continued her streak in 2022 by winning the bronze medal at the Open National Judo Competition in Bhopal.
In 2024, she won a silver medal in the 52 kg category at the Khelo India National Judo Tournament held in Kerala. She followed this with a gold medal performance at the Khelo India Regional Judo Competition in Nashik, Maharashtra. Reinforcing her dominance, she won another gold in the 52 kg category at a tournament in Thrissur, Kerala.
At the Open National Judo Championship held in Pune, Ranjita defeated top competitors from Assam, Telangana, Maharashtra, and Delhi to clinch yet another gold medal. She also secured gold at the Khelo India Youth Games held in Patna, Bihar, further adding to her growing list of accolades and bringing glory to her district and state.
After her continued excellence at the national level, Ranjita went on to represent India internationally. In April 2025, she ranked 5th in the 52 kg category at the Cadet European Cup held in Georgia. She continued her impressive form at the Asian Cadet Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in 2025.
Ultimately, from July 12 to July 15, 2025, Ranjita struck gold at the Asian Cadet Judo Championship held in Taipei, Taiwan, claiming the top spot in the 52 kg category and etching her name in the annals of Indian sports.
Recognizing her potential, Ranjita was selected in January 2023 for training at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) center in Bhopal, where she currently continues her education alongside high-level judo training.
