Attempt to kill senior West Bengal journalist Mrityunjay Sardar by crushing him, government should provide security

Kolkata: Journalist organizations have strongly condemned the attempts to kill senior West Bengal journalist Mrityunjay Sardar by crushing him with a car in Alipur Gopal Nagar area of Kolkata yesterday and demanded the state government to provide him immediate security.

Giving information about the attack in a statement issued here, Mr. Sardar, editor of three dailies published from the state, said that he has suffered injuries in his hands, legs and shoulders in this incident, but he is said to be out of danger. He has been discharged after first aid. He had already expressed apprehension of such incidents and had demanded security of life and property from the government and administration.

International head of SAARC Journalist Forum, Ram Nath Vidrohi has said that Mr. Sardar had already expressed the fear of such an incident but no attention was paid to it. The Bengal government should provide them immediate security.

Periodical Press of India (PPI) President Dr. Surendra Sharma said that the attempt to kill the newspaper editor is highly condemnable. West Bengal government should take immediate cognizance of this incident and take action.

United Indian Journalist Association chief Umendra Dadhich has strongly condemned this incident and has demanded the government to immediately investigate the entire incident and take strict action against the culprits.

Convenor of Save UNI Movement and former press advisor of Bihar government, Dr. RK Raman has demanded immediate action in this matter. Coordinator of this organization and well-known senior journalist Dr. Samrendra Pathak has strongly condemned this incident.
