Chhattisgarh will plant 3 crore 85 lakh saplings in forest and non-forest areas
State-level event for the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" mega plantation campaign will be organised on July 11
Raipur : The state-level event for "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" mega plantation campaign will be organised on July 11 at 4 p.m. at the Biodiversity Park, Atal Nagar, Nava Raipur. Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai will grace the event as chief guest, while Forest Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap will preside over the event. The main objective of the "Ek Ped Maa ke Naam" mega tree plantation drive is to maintain environmental balance by making the state greener through extensive tree planting. Prime Minister Narendra Shri Modi launched this tree plantation drive on World Environment Day, June 5, 2024. Under this campaign, it is proposed to plant 80 crore trees across the country by September 2024 and 140 crore trees by March 2025. As part of the "Ek Ped Maa ke Naam" mega plantation drive, the Forest Department of Chhattisgarh will plant 3 crore 85 lakh saplings in forest and non-forest areas.
Chief Minister Shri Sai has called for naming plantation sites after local deities. Tree planting programs will be organised in all districts at village and panchayat levels with the participation of public representatives. Under this scheme, fruit-bearing plants such as mango, jamun, bael, jackfruit, custard apple, pomegranate, mulberry, ber, tendu, and gangai imli are being planted. Additionally, minor forest produce and medicinal species like harra, baheda, amla, neem, putranjiva, kala siris, ritha, and chitrak are also being planted. In urban areas, shade-providing species like banyan, peepal, moulshree, kadam, peltrophorum, gulmohar, karanj, ashok, and arjuna are being planted along with other varieties. The campaign includes planting trees in all schools, hostels, anganwadi centres, police stations, hospitals, government premises, government and non-government lands, and vacant lands of various industrial institutions.
The mega plantation drive involves cooperation from all government departments, non-governmental organisations, voluntary institutions, forest management committee members, panchayat institutions at all levels, students from schools and colleges, prominent citizens, and public representatives to ensure their participation in the tree planting efforts.
Deputy Chief Ministers Shri Arun Sao and Shri Vijay Sharma, along with Raipur MP Shri Brijmohan Agrawal and Abhanpur MLA Shri Indra Kumar Sahu, will attend as distinguished guests. Chief Secretary Shri Amitabh Jain, Additional Chief Secretary of Forest and Climate Change Department Mrs. Richa Sharma, and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force Shri V. Srinivas Rao will attend the event.
