Defying Maoist threat, this braveheart tribal woman is discharging her duties as Addavali village Sarpanch

Spends the honorarium received as Sarpanch for the welfare of villagers

Rita’s husband was killed by Maoists, but she did not give into the stronghold of Maoist fear

Chief Minister gave financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to Rita

The mother of two is actively working to bring a positive change in the area

Meet this braveheart tribal woman Rita Mandavi, who is discharging her duties as Sarpanch of Addavali gram Panchayat of Bijapur district, defying Maoist threat. Her husband Ghanshyam Mandavi was killed by Maoists a few months ago. He gave an active contribution in making people aware of their rights and promoting the schemes of state government in the tribal community.

The Maoists killed Ghanshyam to keep the villagers cut off from the mainstream of the society. The move aimed to discourage villagers, tribal community and Ghanshyam’s family from bringing a positive change in their area. However, Rita did not give into the stronghold of Maoist fear and instead of being discouraged after the death of her husband; she grew more confident and stronger.

Rita, along with her 4-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter indulged in the same work that she used to do with her deceased husband, making people aware and publicize various welfare schemes of the state government. This is not it! Rita, belonging to Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) Muria, spends the honorarium received as Sarpanch for the welfare of people of her village.

Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel has provided financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to Rita Mandavi, a victim of Naxal-violence, during his visit to Kutru area. After the demise of her husband, Rita was extremely worried about one thing—her children’s education. But now her concern has also been resolved, due to which she has emerged stronger than before. “I will spend this money for providing quality education and better future to my children and will dedicate my life to serve society and make people aware just like before”, said Rita.
