To promote local and traditional games in Chhattisgarh, State Government has taken a new initiative to organize Chhattisgarhiya Olympic Games this year. This decision was taken today at the Cabinet Meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel at his residence office.

Under Chhattisgarhiya Olympic, sports competitions from kabaddi, Kho-Kho to tennis and cricket will be organized. Children to elderly, everyone can participate in these competitions. It is noteworthy that only the domiciles of Chhattisgarh can take part in the Chhattisgarhiya Olympic.

It is worth mentioning that soon after Mr. Bhupesh Baghel took oath as Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, he took a special initiative to promote and preserve the Chhattisgarhia culture and local rural traditions. Chief Minister Mr. Baghel organizes grand celebration of various folk festivals at his residence, where he enthusiastically participates in the traditional games. Even during his Bhent-Mulaqat program, he doesn't hesitate to go among the children and play games like Bhaura, Kanche (Banti), Gilli-Danda, Pitthul with them.

*Chhattisgarhia Olympics will be organized in four levels:

Games like Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Gedi, Pitthul, Volleyball, Hockey and Tennis Ball cricket have been included under Chhattisgarhia Olympic Games-2022. Competitions will be held in two categories- male and female, and at four levels i.e. Gram Panchayat, Block, District and State-level. Chhattisgarhia Olympic Games will be organized at the state-level in the capital Raipur. Sports coaches from Chhattisgarh Sports Development Authority, representatives of state and district sports associations and sports teachers of the education department will be providing the technical support and guidance in organizing these games.

*Training for National and International Competitions:

Sports Instructors (Coaches) will prepare the talented sportspersons of Chhattisgarhia Olympic Games-2022 for national and international competitions. This is a golden opportunity for the athletes to enhance their career as a sportsperson at national and international level.

Following committees will be constituted for sports events:

State Government will constitute separate committees for organizing sports events in gram panchayats and in 146 blocks of the state. The convener of the committees constituted at the gram panchayat level will be the sarpanch and the convener of the committees formed at the block level will be the block officer. For the food, transportation and other facilities for the participants, budget will be sanctioned to the Gram Panchayats and Development Blocks

Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel virtually released an amount of Rs 5 crore 09 lakh to the beneficiaries as the 51st installment of Godhan Nyay Yojana in a programme organized at his residence today. This includes Rs 2 crore 69 lakh to cow dung vendors and Rs 1 crore 48 lakh and Rs 93 lakh to Gauthan Samitis and women Self-Help Groups respectively as a dividend.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that nearly 15 lakh quintals of vermicompost made using cow dung purchased under Godhan Nyay Yojana have been utilized by the farmers in their fields. "Through this scheme, we are serving Mother Earth along with serving 'Gaumata' (cow). Vermicompost production and its use in place of chemical fertilizers is a service to Mother Earth."

Referring to the feedback received from farmers, Mr. Baghel said that the use of vermicompost has improved soil fertility and crop production to a great extent. In addition, it has helped in reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers. He stressed on the need for mass production of vermicompost to ensure availability of the same to more than 26 lakh farmers of the state. For this, he also instructed to ensure regular purchase of cow dung in Gauthans without any hindrance and to get vermicompost tanks made as per requirement. He said that more than 3.5 lakh farmers of the state have lifted vermicompost from cooperative societies in the form of crop loans in the current Kharif season, which is encouraging.

He added that in the initial phase some people even mocked the cow dung procurement scheme. However, today this scheme has gained popularity in the villages and is being appreciated across the country. He said that new employment opportunities have been created in the villages with the coordination of Gauthan and Godhan Nyay Yojana. Rs 79 crore 60 lakh has been deposited in the bank accounts of 5863 Gauthan committees of the state as of today. About 2500 Gauthan committees have their capital deposits ranging from Rs one lakh to 10 lakh while that of 46 Gauthan committees ranges from Rs 10 lakh to 50 lakh.

"This achievement is a strong step towards realizing Mahatma Gandhi's dream of 'Gram Swaraj' (self-reliant villages). Many young entrepreneurs want to join the Rural Industrial Park set up in Gauthan. We should give them opportunities as this will increase employment opportunities in the rural areas and boost the income of locals. We are making all possible efforts to make villages prosperous", he said.

Addressing the programme, Agriculture Minister Mr. Ravindra Choubey said that cow dung worth Rs 160 crore has been purchased in Gauthans so far. The women groups associated with Gauthans have earned an income of Rs 80 crore through various economic activities including vermicompost production. Efforts are being made in coordination with all the departments to ensure that income-oriented activities are conducted in Gauthans in a better way. An initiative to connect Yuva Mitan Club with Gauthans has also been started. He said that Gauthan and Godhan Nyay Yojana has become a source of income for livestock farmers, women self-help groups, and landless families.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Managing Director of Godhan Nyay Yojana, Dr. Ayaz Tamboli gave detailed information about the achievement of Godhan Nyay Yojana. He said that the purchase of 'gaumutra' is also being done by the Gauthans. So far, women's groups are selling 21 thousand liters of cow urine and making organic pesticides, 'Brahmastra' and 'Jeevamrut' using it. So far 17.57 lakh quintals of vermicompost have been produced using cow dung, out of which 15 lakh quintals of vermicompost have been sold.

India has always had a rich tradition of Upanishads and vedic logic. Our traditional literature is a treasure worth cherishing,it also teaches us to respect disagreements and take different opinions in consideration with utmost harmony. At the same time, many types of 'darshans' took place in our country and in spite of disagreements, everyone was respected equally. Charvak is a great example of this school of philosophy, which states "Yavat jeevet sukham jeevet rinam kritva ghritam pibet," but he was also not disrespected.

Unfortunately, over the years there has been increased resistance to dissent, which is a matter of great concern for India as a collective unit.The Chief Minister said this on the occasion of honoring retired teachers in Bhansuli. The Chief Minister said that studiousity is of great importance in our tradition. We have been following the age old tradition of 'guru shishya' since the gurukul era which has shaped numerous scholars. People become writers by studying a lot in universities, they become litterateurs, but recently a new university called WhatsApp University has come into existence which is spreading misinformation and hindering our unity as a country, it does not require any kind of degree to spread propaganda through this. Patriots like Pandit Nehru who spent 10 years in jail against the British, but unfortunately, forgetting their contribution, false propaganda is being spread against him.

We did the work of strengthening the school system so that there is no attempt to distort our excellent tradition. We have expanded English education through Swami Atmanand Schools. Sanskrit will also be taught here. The library was made with state of the art books and infrastructure that children can attain education through a diverse variety of books.

Mr. Baghel further said that there were great philosophers like Shankaracharya in India who spoke of 'Brahma Satyam Jagat Mithya'.

Gurus like Ramanujacharya started the Bhakti movement which inspired a diverse variety of art,literature and music . After this, gurus like Kabir, Nanak put forward the tradition of Guru. Kabir has even described Guru as a superior being to Govind.

Gandhiji's experiences of the Round Table- The Chief Minister also apprised the people regarding Gandhiji's memoirs of the Round Table Conference. He said that Mahatma Gandhi remained in a dhoti kurta in the round table conference despite the harsh winter and narrated how the British played a big role in ending India's self-reliant economy.

Rs 500 crore for the maintenance of schools – The Chief Minister said on this occasion that education and health are our most important needs. We have decided to spend Rs 500 crore for the maintenance of our schools. Chhattisgarhi and local languages will also be taught in our schools one day. We have decided to start 5000 kindergartens. We introduced English education through 51 Swami Atmanand schools. Today the number has increased to 279. Next year 422 new Swami Atmanand schools will be started. In this way 701 Swami Atmanand Vidyalayas exist in the state to illuminate the future of Chhattisgarh through education. Today we have opened a school in Nava Raipur as well. The Chief Minister also announced the establishment of a mini stadium at Bhansuli today. The Vice Chancellor of Pandit Ravi Shankar Shukla University, Mr. Keshari Nath Verma, former MLA Mr. Pradeep Choubey and Educationist Mr. Syed Fazil also addressed the gathering. The Chairman of School Management Committee, Mr. Puran Sahu also addressed the gathering and expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister. On this occasion, District Panchayat Vice President Mr. Ashok Sahu, District Central Cooperative Bank President Mr. Jawahar Verma, District Mandi Board President Mr. Ashwini Sahu and other dignitaries were present.

Today on 5 September, on the occasion of Teacher’s Day, the Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel launched the Balwadi Yojana in his residential office to develop the ability of the children to learn and understand through sports. The School Education Department has started the Balwadi Yojana for children between 5 to 6 years. The Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel, in the presence of the Education Minister Mr. Premsay Singh Tekam, started this scheme with the theme of “Jabo Balwadi badhabo Shiksha Ke Gadi” in the Chief Minister Residential Office. The Balwadi Yojana will encourage learning in children and they will be prepared for school as well. Every Balwadi will have an assistant teacher of the concerned primary school besides an Anganbadi assistant. For this, the assistant teacher will be provided an honorarium of Rs. 500 each month.

Anganwadi assistants and teachers have been provided specialized training for teaching children through sports in an interesting way. Rs. 1 Lakh has been allocated to each Balwadi for child-friendly furniture, sports equipment, and print reach painting. This year 5,173 Balwadis have been started and in the coming years, Balwadis will be opened in a phased-out manner in every region of the state.

Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel said that scientists have found in their research that 85% development of the human brain takes place in childhood. What a child learns in formative years helps them in their school and in the future. Therefore, education should start when a child’s mind is still developing.

On the occasion of the launch of the scheme, the School Education Minister of the state Mr. Premsay Singh Tekam said that the Balwadi Yojana is aimed at providing an educational bridge for the mental, social, psychological, and cognitive development of the children so that when they attend 1st standard at the age of 5 to 6 years, they are completely prepared for it.

The Chief Secretary of the School Education Department Mr. Alok Shukla said while providing information about the scheme that this year, 5173 Balwadis have been started and in the coming years, Balwadis will be opened in a phased-out manner in every region of the state.

On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel has taken three major decisions in the interest of students. Now, every school in the state will dedicate one day a week to teaching Chhattisgarhi and other local dialects. Teaching material is also being prepared to implement this decision of Chief Minister. In Bastar and Surguja, text material is being prepared in local dialects, and in remaining regions, the material is being compiled in Chhattisgarhi. Studying in Chhattisgarhi and other local dialects one day a week will encourage the students to speak the dialects and take interest in the same.

In another major announcement, Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel has said that Sanskrit language will also be taught in Swami Atmanand English medium schools as a subject to promote Indian culture and tradition.

Moreover, Chief Minister has also made computer education compulsory in Swami Atmanand English medium schools. Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, Chief Minister Mr. Baghel said that education should be aimed at physical, mental and intellectual development of a child, and this is the reason why Chhattisgarh government is adopting innovative approach to promote holistic education for all-round development of children.

Swami Atmanand Excellent English Medium School Mohla has entered the second academic session and its popularity is growing by the day. Parents here are so keen to enroll their children in an English medium school that they have themselves arranged a bus for their children to commute to school. This bus is being operated from village Gotatola to Mohla since last year.

It is noteworthy that this bus is jointly operated by the parents of about 30 children. The children of Gotatola, Dhotitola, Kevartola, Telitola and Rengakatera commute by the aforementioned bus to reach school. This is a glowing example of rising awareness regarding education in rural areas.

Through this scheme, children from rural areas now have access to quality education in English medium school. Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh : Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel inaugurated the newly formed Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh-Chowki district and unveiled the district map. Addressing the people of the newly formed district, he congratulated all people of the newly formed district and announced Rs.3 crore for the development of all three blocks of the district. He said, “Rajnandgaon was a big district, someone living in the remotest area of the district was unable to reach headquarters before evening, but now all these problems have been solved. It seems from the crowd that people are happy with the decision of the government and it will benefit people”.

He further said, “Chhattisgarh Mahatari ke kora ma nawa zila jud ge hai( a new district now has been added in Chhattisgarh)”. He said that people living in the remote village had to travel even 170 km to reach district headquarters and if needed they had to stay overnight at Rajnandgaon. Now, this distance has been reduced to only 70 km distance and the difficulties of the people have also been solved. He unveiled the statue of Chhattisgarh Mahtari and the statue of the Late Lal Shyam Shah. He further said that we have fulfilled our ancestors' dreams. The Chief Minister said that farmers' loans have been waived off and they have been paid a fair price for their crops. Our government worked for people of all sections so that they live with dignity. Corona caused so much trouble, but we fought bravely. We have provided reasonable rates for minor forest produce. We worked to put money in everyone's pocket. We respect every farmer who indulges in producing food for the country.

He further said that we have started Swami Atmanand Excellent English Medium School in the state. There will be 4 to 5 such schools in each assembly. We started to give holiday on World Tribal Day. We worked for our cultural dignity. The irrigation system has to be improved in the Rajnandgaon district. The purpose of the formation of a new district is to resolve the people’s problems immediately and the fast-paced development work for the people can be done easily. The Chief Minister said, “I will come to you soon. I will stay here at night. I will talk to you in detail and development decisions will be taken there immediately. On the occasion, the Chief Minister also introduced the new district collector Mr. S. Jayawardhan and SP Mr. Y. Akshay Kumar to the people. The newly appointed collector also expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister on behalf of the people of the district.

Addressing the people, Forest Minister Mr.Mohammad Akbar extended his best wishes to the people on the inauguration of the new district. He said that the Chhattisgarh Government takes care of the interests of all sections of society and plans have also been made for this. The development of the state has accelerated through NYAY schemes. Food Minister Mr.Amarjeet Singh Bhagat said that Chhattisgarh has the lowest unemployment rate in the country. About 80 per cent of the people of the state are farmers. A fair price has been paid for their hard work. Khujji MLA Mrs. Chhani Sahu and Mohla-Manpur MLA Mr. Inder Shah Mandavi thanked the Chief Minister for dedicating the new district and proposed various development plans for the area. Collector Doman Singh presented the report. In this, he apprised the profile details of the new district.

Raigarh : Today, Chief Minister Mr.Bhupesh Baghel interacted with the people during the ‘Bhent Mulaqat’ held at Loing village of Raigarh district. He was enthusiastically welcomed by the ‘Sarva Samaj’ and they gave him a traditional bamboo cap to wear. He prayed for the well-being of the people of the state by offering prayers at the Mahaprabhu Jagannath temple and also performed a ‘parikrama’ of the temple. He also inaugurated Swami Atmanand Excellent Hindi Medium School in Loing village after offering prayers to Chhattisgarh Mahtari. He also interacted with the students and inquired about the meeting arrangements, the presence of teachers, and the facilities available in the school.

Fulfilling the much-awaited demand of the villagers, Chief Minister Mr.Baghel approved the construction of ITI and a mini stadium at Loing-Mahapalli. Apart from this, 132 KV sub-stations at Pandripani for uninterrupted power supply, construction of culverts in Koilanga Nallah to facilitate transportation and construction of a stop dam at Belaria for irrigation were also announced.

The Chief Minister wished the people present on the occasion of the ‘Navakhai’ festival. He had a meal at Mr. Bahadur Sidar’s house, a resident of Loing village. He especially praised Shadras vegetable curry in the food. He was also served ‘lekha khatai’ and ‘Makhna Bhaji’. On the demand of office bearers of Kushtu Guru Samuh Loing Kirtan Mandali, the Chief Minister gifted them a mic and box with WiFi-Bluetooth connectivity. Taking feedback on the schemes, he said ”I am here with ministers, MLAs and officials to take feedback about the implementation of the government schemes”. He interacted with villagers and discussed the PDS system, school management, Anganwadi centre working, implementation of government schemes etc.

During the meeting, Mrs. Sairabano and Mrs. Amrit Bai praised the PDS system and said that they are getting rice, and sugar on time as per eligibility from the ration shop. A farmer named Mr.Shivraj Patel expressed his gratitude to the state government for farmer-friendly schemes and said that under Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana, he received an amount of Rs.20 thousand as a second instalment. He also sells cow dung in village Gauthan under Godhan Nyay Yojana, which gives them an additional profit. Similarly, Mr.Vinod Kumar Gupta said that with the help of the Horticulture Department, he cultivates apple ‘ber’, banana, mango and palm on four acres of land. He has 10-12 cows in the house and he also sells cow dung. Apart from this, he also cultivates paddy on six acres.

During the meeting, Mrs. Jahnavi Pradhan said that her group makes vermicompost in Gauthan and also manages a poultry farm. Gothan Samiti has also got two flour mills for self-employment under the government scheme. She thanked the Chief Minister for providing new employment opportunities to the women of the state. Mr.Gurudev Pradhan, a resident of Kotabharri, praised the ‘Mukhya Mantri Haat Bazar Clinic’ scheme and said that he is getting free treatment for diabetes. At the request of the women of Utkal Samaj, Chief Minister Mr.Bhupesh Baghel took a selfie with them and also wished them on the ‘Nuakhai’ festival.

Announcement made for the construction of roads, community building, school building, building for health center including upgradation of health center to primary health center in Navapara

Boundary wall, mini stadium, flood relief centers will be constructed in the flood affected villages in Munichuan Ashram complex

Raigarh : Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel today commenced the Bhent Mulaqat campaign at Nawapara of Raigarh district by offering prayers at Munichuan Ashram and wishing for the happiness and prosperity for the people of the state. The Chief Minister gave the message of environmental protection by planting a banyan plant in the ashram premises and encouraged the villagers to plant more and more trees to contribute towards the betterment of environment. The villagers also honored the Chief Minister by offering him a hat made of Kashi Phool.

On the demand of the villagers, the Chief Minister upgraded the sub-health center in Navapara to a primary health centre,he also announced a construction of a new building for the sub-health center in the village of Kathani and a new building for the primary health center in the village panchayat of Midmida, he also announced the construction of road from Ektal road to Lahangapali, village panchayat, the construction of a Community building for Sarva Samaj at Boradipa, Pusaur, a road up to the unreachable village of Sodkala in village Malda is also to be constructed, construction of boundary wall in Munichuan Ashram complex, mini stadium at Badi Hardi, Pusaur, construction of flood relief centers in all flood affected villages near Mahanadi, the construction of Government Higher Secondary School building in Rengapali was also announced.

The Chief Minister started the Bhent Mulaqat program by offering prayers to the Chhattisgarh Mahatari at village Nawapara. Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel has approved an amount of Rs 500 crore for the repair and maintenance work of various school buildings across the state. He has instructed the Chief Secretary to make sure that the repair work starts immediately after the monsoon ends. The move aims to ensure the smooth functioning of these schools.

In the instructions given to the Chief Secretary, Chief Minister Mr. Baghel has said that during the state-wide meet and greet campaign, information about the deteriorating condition of school buildings was received from villagers, public representatives, and media representatives. Besides, the work was long due because of insufficient fund allocation, which in turn had a negative impact on students' learning.

The Chief Minister has directed the Chief Secretary that a provision of at least Rs 500 crore should be made for the repair and maintenance work of schools before the commencement of the upcoming academic session (June 2023).

SC issues notice to Karnataka on pleas against HC order refusing to lift ban on hijab

New Delhi, Aug 29 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Monday sought response from the Karnataka government on pleas challenging the Karnataka High Court verdict refusing to lift the ban on hijab in educational institutions of the state.

A bench of Justices Hemant Gupta and Sudhanshu Dhulia issued notice to the state on the pleas and posted them for hearing on September 5.

The bench pulled up some of the petitioners, who sought adjournment in the matter, and said it would not permit "this kind of forum shopping".

Several petitions have been filed in the apex court against the Karnataka High Court verdict holding that wearing of hijab is not a part of the essential religious practice which can be protected under Article 25 of the Constitution.

The high court had dismissed the petitions filed by a section of Muslim students from the Government Pre-University Girls College in Udupi, seeking permission to wear hijab inside classroom.

Bilkis Bano case: SC asks for Centre, Gujarat govt response on remission of convicts

New Delhi, (PTI) Was there application of mind while considering remission, the Supreme Court asked on Thursday and issued notice to the Centre and the Gujarat government on a plea challenging the release of 11 convicts in the 2002 case of Bilkis Bano's gangrape and murder of her family members.

A bench headed by Chief Justice N V Ramana asked the petitioners to implead all 11 who have been granted remission as parties in the matter.

The bench, also comprising Justices Ajay Rastogi and Vikram Nath, posted the matter for hearing after two weeks.

Bilkis Bano was 21 years old and five months pregnant when she was gangraped while fleeing the riots that broke out after the Godhra train burning in 2002. Her three-year-old daughter was among the seven killed.

The 11 men convicted in the case walked out of the Godhra sub-jail on August 15 after the Gujarat government allowed their release under its remission policy. They had completed more than 15 years in jail.

The plea in the apex court has been filed by CPI(M) leader Subhashini Ali, journalist Revathy Laul and activist Roop Rekha Rani.

Deliberating on the issue that has led to huge debate on the issue of relief in such heinous cases, the court said the question is whether there was application of mind while considering the issue of remission and whether it was within the parameters of law.

"Day in day out, those who are convicted and complete their sentence, they are eligible for remission . What is the exception?" the bench observed. Is that sufficient to say they are not entitled for remission, it asked.

During the hearing, senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the petitioners, referred to the facts of the case and said several people, including minors, were killed and a pregnant woman was raped.

"The only question is, in these circumstances, what is the judicial review of the court in the context of remission," he said.

The bench observed that whatever act was committed by the accused persons, they have been punished and held guilty by the court.

Sibal said the petitioners want the apex court to look at the record and find whether there was application of mind.

The chief justice of India referred to an apex court judgement in May this year. It said the state of Gujarat was the "appropriate government" competent to examine the application filed for premature release of a life convict in a murder case, which was transferred from a court there to a Mumbai court for trial in August 2004.

"I have seen somewhere that as if the court has granted permission for release. No," Justice Ramana, who retires on Friday, observed.

The bench said it would issue notice on the plea.

One of the counsels appearing in the matter said the petitioners are "third party" to the criminal prosecution in this case and have not made those, who were granted remission, as party in the plea.

"Why have you not included him as a party respondent?" the bench asked Sibal.

Sibal said the petitioners would make them party in the case.

"Petitioners are directed to implead the persons who are released by virtue of order . Issue notice. List after two weeks," the bench said.

On August 23, the apex court had agreed to consider listing the plea challenging the grant of remission by the state to the life convicts.

The plea referred to the sequence of events of the case recorded in judicial files and said, "It is submitted that on such facts, no right thinking authority applying any test under any extant policy would consider it fit to grant remission to persons who are found to have been involved in the commission of such gruesome acts."

"It is further submitted that it would appear that the constitution of members of the competent authority of the respondent No.1 (state of Gujarat) also bore allegiance to a political party, and also was sitting MLAs. As such, it would appear that the competent authority was not an authority that was entirely independent, and one that could independently apply its mind to the facts at hand," it said and quoted media reports to buttress its contention.

The apex court had earlier asked the Gujarat government to consider the plea of remission.

TMC MP Mahua Moitra has also filed a separate petition in the Supreme Court against the release of the convicts in the case. She alleged that the remission "completely fails to bolster either social or human justice and does not constitute a valid exercise of the guided discretionary power of the State".

The investigation in the case was handed over to the CBI and the trial was transferred to a Maharashtra local court by the Supreme Court.

A special CBI court in Mumbai on January 21, 2008, sentenced the 11 to life imprisonment on charges of gangrape and murder of seven members of Bilkis Bano's family. Their conviction was later upheld by the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court.

The state had witnessed riots in 2002 after the Sabarmati Express was attacked in Godhra and 59 passengers, mainly 'kar sevaks', were burnt to death.

ED arrests ‘middleman’ Prem Prakash in Jharkhand illegal mining case

On Wednesday, two AK-47 assault rifles and cash were recovered from his house during a day-long search operation following which the ED informed the local police in this connection.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested an alleged middleman identified as Prem Prakash in connection with its ongoing money-laundering probe into an illegal mining and extortion case in Jharkhand, officials said on Thursday.

On Wednesday, two AK-47 assault rifles and cash were recovered from his house during a day-long search operation following which the ED informed the local police in this connection.

Besides Jharkhand, the raids were also conducted at Tamil Nadu, Bihar and in Delhi-NCR.

Pankaj Mishra, a close aide of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, was arrested by the ED on July 19. During his questioning, the ED gathered a lot of inputs following which raids were conducted on Wednesday.

The ED had recently seized one inland vessel worth Rs 30 crore, namely M.V.Infralink- III, which was allegedly being used by Mishra.

“The said inland vessel was being operated illegally without any permit from Sukargarh Ghat, Sahebganj. The vessel was being operated at the behest of Rajesh Yadav alias Dahu Yadav in collusion with Pankaj Mishra and others for transporting illegally mined stone chips and stone boulders,” the ED official had said.

The official said that an FIR was lodged in this respect with Muffasil police station against the owner of the vessel MV INFRALINK-III under Section 25, 30 of Bengal Ferries Act, and sections 188, 282, 420 of IPC.

This was preceded by freezing of two illegally operated stone crushers of MaaAmba Stone Works operated by Bishnu Yadav and Pavitra Yadav along with freezing of three HYVA trucks found at Mauza Majhikola, Sahebganj carrying illegally quarried stone chips and boulders without having any mining challans.

An FIR in this regard was lodged under Section 379, 414 of IPC at Girwabadi, Sahebganj police station.

“Besides, one illegal mine situated at Mauza Simaria, Sahebganj operated by Bishnu Yadav and others has been identified. Another mine has been identified at Mauza Demba, Sahebganj where mining has exceeded far beyond the leased area. The quantification of the excess illegal mining done at the above site has been estimated around 37.5 million cubic feet, which has remained undeclared and concealed. The processed value of the mined stone chips is estimated to be around Rs 45 crore,” the official had said.

Adani group for 26% stake in NDTV, media-house denies founder consent

New Delhi : With an idea to hold 55.18 percent stake in New Delhi Television Ltd (NDTV), the Adani group has issued an open offer for 26 percent stake in the news channel at Rs 294 for a share with a face value of Rs.4.

The total outlay for 26 percent, or 16,762,530 fully paid up equity shares of NDTV – if the offer is accepted in full – will be about Rs 483 crore for the Adani group.

According to Adani group, the stake acquisition will be in two modes.

Firstly, it will be through Vishvapradhan Commercial Private Ltd (VCPL). And then VCPL, its wholly-owned parent AMG Media Networks and Adani Enterprises Ltd (persons acting in concert).

According to AMG Media Networks, its subsidiary VCPL has exercised its rights to acquire 99.5 percent of equity shares of RRPR Holding Private Ltd, a promoter group company of NDTV.

The VCPL holds 1,990,000 warrants of RRPR Holding entitling it to convert them into 99.99 percent stake in the latter.

The VCPL has exercised its option in part, resulting in acquisition control of RRPR Holding – 1,990,000 equity shares or 99.50 percent.

RRPR Holding holds 29.18 percent stake in NDTV which has three national television channels.

VCPL, along with AMNL and AEL (persons acting in concert), will launch an open offer to acquire up to 26 per cent stake in NDTV, in compliance with the requirements of SEBI (Substantial Acquisition of Shares and Takeovers) Regulations, 2011.

The VCPL, at its sole discretion, may exercise the balance warrants to acquire up to 99.99 per cent of the equity share capital of RRPR Holding at any time and in such manner as it may deem fit.

“This acquisition is a significant milestone in the journey of AMNL’s (AMG Networks) goal to pave the path of new age media across platforms,” AMG Media Networks Ltd Sanjay Pugalia said.

“AMNL seeks to empower Indian citizens, consumers and those interested in India, with information and knowledge. With its leading position in news and its strong and diverse reach across genres and geographies, NDTV is the most suitable broadcast and digital platform to deliver on our vision. We look forward to strengthening NDTV’s leadership in news delivery,” he added.

AMNL, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises, houses the media business of the Adani Group.

As per BSE, NDTV has three promoter shareholders (Prannoy Roy 15.94 per cent, Radhika Roy 16.32, RRPR Holding 29.18) holding 61.45 per cent stake and the balance 38.55 percent is with the public.

NDTV denies consent of Founders

In a curious turn of events, NDTV has said that without any discussion with the New Delhi Television Limited (NDTV) or its founder-promoters, a notice has been served upon them by Vishvapradhan Commercial Private Limited (VCPL), stating that it (VCPL) has exercised its rights to acquire 99.50 per cent control of RRPR Holding Private Limited (RRPRH), the promoter-owned company that owns 29.18 percent of NDTV.

Does this then translate into a hostile takeover?

The NDTV founders and the company would like to make it clear that this exercise of rights by VCPL was executed without any input from, conversation with, or consent of the NDTV founders, who, like NDTV, have been made aware of this exercise of rights only today. RRPRH, which owns 29.18 percent of NDTV, has been told to transfer within two days all its equity shares to VCPL,” NDTV said in a regulatory filing.

NDTV is a leading media house which has pioneered the delivery of credible news for over three decades. The company operates three national news channels — NDTV 24×7, NDTV India and NDTV Profit. It also has strong online presence and remains one of the most followed news handles on social media with more than 35 million followers across various platforms.

NDTV recorded a revenue of Rs 421 crore with an EBITDA of Rs 123 crore and net profit of Rs 85 crore in FY22 with negligible debt.

Bilkis Bano case: SC agrees to examine plea against remission of convicts

The Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to examine a plea challenging the remission granted to the 11 who were convicted for the rape and murder in the 2002 Bilkis Bano case.

The plea was mentioned by advocate Aparna Bhat and senior advocate Kapil Sibal before a bench headed by Chief Justice N.V. Ramana. The counsel submitted that they are challenging the remission order, and emphaszied that a pregnant woman was raped and people were killed.

The bench queried the counsel if they were granted remission by virtue of the top court order. Sibal replied that the apex court merely directed the state to consider the matter, and they were challenging the remission, not the top court order.

The bench said, “we will see”. Bhat urged the court to list the matter for Wednesday. The bench replied, “let us see the papers”.

Eleven convicts, sentenced to life imprisonment, were released from Godhra sub-jail on August 15 after the Gujarat government allowed their release under its remission policy. The convicts had completed more than 15 years in jail.

In January 2008, a special CBI court in Mumbai had sentenced the convicts to life imprisonment for gang-rape and murder of seven members of Bilkis Bano’s family. The Bombay High Court upheld their conviction.

Bano was 21-years-old and five months pregnant when she was gang-raped while fleeing the violence that broke out after the Godhra train burning.

On Monday night and Tuesday at the end of video, after making derogatory comments, Raja Singh said that whatever he uttered was "comedy". The Telangana unit of the BJP has also disassociated itself from the MLA and his statements.

Hyderabad: Goshamahal MLA from BJP T Raja Singh was arrested on Tuesday morning following protests against him over his remarks on Prophet Muhammad. Scores of people were protesting and demanding his arrest outside city police commissioner CV Anand’s office and in other parts of town since Monday night.

Raja Singh had released a video on Jai Shree Ram channel on youtube, in which he passed derogatory comments about Prophet Muhammad. The BJP MLA called it “comedy”, and also abused comedian Munawar Faruqui and his mother two days after the comedian’s show was held in Hyderabad. The Telangana unit of the BJP has also disassociated itself from his statements.

BJP chief spokesperson for Telangana Krishna Saagar Rao told Siasat.com that his party respects all religions and faiths. “We are a national party and we don’t support the statements of Raja Singh or hate speech,” he stated.

His comments lead to scores of people protesting on the streets demanding his arrest. Following his video, the BJP MLA was booked by the Dabeerpura police for his remarks. Many people were also taken into custody by the police on Tuesday after protests broke out.

A huge number of cops have also been deployed outside the offices of the Hyderabad police commissioner, the Director General of Police office at Lakdikapul, and the old police commissioner office at Purani Haveli and other important places in the city after protests erupted against BJP MLA Raja Singh for his remarks against Prophet Muhammad.

“….I thought to myself, He ( referring to comedian Munawar Faruqui) is abusing Lord Ram and Sita so I should research this almighty of his and people who wear round caps (Muslims). The moment I did it, I found something very shocking in the video. In that, it says that the man married a six-year-old (referring to the Prophet Muhammad),” said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Raja Singh in the 10 minute-27-second video.

At the end of the video, after making derogatory comments, Raja Singh said that whatever he uttered was “comedy” and that he himself didn’t like what he said. The video was uploaded on Shree Ram Channel Telangana (now made private). Singh in fact repeated some of the things that now suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma said on TV recently, which became an international row after Muslim countries condemned it.

A case has been registered against Raja Singh under Sections 295(a)- Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs; 153(a)- Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony; 505 (1) (b)- with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public, or to any section of the public whereby any person may be induced to commit an offence against the State or against the public tranquillity; and 505 (2)- Statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes; besides Section 506- Punishment for criminal intimidation, of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Telangana police on high alert across state

Meanwhile, the police had initially increased security in and around Mangalhat and Dhoolpet fearing attacks on Raja Singh. Police officials said that his security was being heightened, as a ‘Chalo Goshamahal’ protest was being planned as seen on social media.

Due to the unrest caused by Raja Singh’s remarks, the inauguration of the new Chandrayangutta flyover by IT and industries minister KT Rama Rao (KTR) on Tuesday has also been postponed.

Rapid Action Force and police forces from reserve wings of Telangana State Special Police, GreyHounds, and neighboring districts have also been deployed. Police pickets have also been posted at communally sensitive areas of Hyderabad and in the old city, it has been learned.

After protests broke out against Raja Singh, senior police officials held a meeting in the morning and put the entire state police machinery on a tight vigil. A high alert has also been unofficially declared in the erstwhile districts of Adilabad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Vikarabad, and Mahbubnagar, said senior officials.
